Basic Lawn Care Program

Our Basic Lawn Care Program can be altered to fit your budget.

We are only on your lawn 6 times for a total of 8 applications (exception: free service calls and optional services).

Granular Fertilizer: This is a pre-emergent crabgrass control.

Two Applications
1st – Granular Fertilizer: This is a post-emergent crabgrass control.
2nd – Blanket Broadleaf Weed Control: Granular or Liquid (Chickweed, Clover, Dandelion, etc).

Granular Grub Control and Fertilizer with Insect Control: This will control grubs, which feed on the root system of your grass. The fertilizer will get your lawn off to a good start before the summer heat arrives.

Grub control is FREE with round 3 service. Other company’s charge extra for grub control and hand out two invoices at this time. Not us.

Granular Maintenance Fertilizer: Or you will receive a Weed Control with a Liquid Crabgrass Killer.

The condition of your lawn will determine which maintenance application you will receive. (It will be determined by your Certified Applicator)

Two Applications
1st – Granular Fertilizer: A healthy feeding that will help your lawn recover from the summer stress.
2nd – Granular Limestone: Lime neutralizes the pH level of your soil and in return conditions and promotes growth in the soil. This is great for when you get Fall aeration and seeding.

Granular Winterized Fertilizer: It concentrates below the soil, strengthening root systems and developing plant hardiness.

It prepares your lawn for the start of the next growing season. This is a very beneficial application.

Why Do We Prefer Granular Fertilizer?

Granular fertilizer feeds the grass slowly and evenly and won’t wash away. Spraying liquid fertilizer never completely gets down to the roots and can stick on blades of grass and evaporate or even burn. Liquid can also move too rapidly through the soil and be wasted.

All granule used is a slow release and is coated so it will not burn your lawn out during the summer months.

Optional Services

The Watering Can

Keeping your flowers and plants hydrated is crucial to it staying healthy throughout the year. We start the program from the time the plants are put in (usually May) and continue through September. We come out once a week unless it’s super-hot for an extended time, then we might do it twice a week. We use a water-soluble fertilizer that is great for maintaining flowers and plants. It supplies nutrients that provide strength to the flowers and plant, as well as, lush green growth.

Why should we water?
Water helps a plant by transporting important nutrients through the plant. Nutrients are drawn from the soil and used by the plant. Without enough watering the cells, the plants droop, so water helps a plant stand. Water carries the dissolved sugar and other nutrients through the plant. A plant cannot grow if it doesn’t have healthy roots, so the proper balance of water is key when growing flowers and plants.

Also, during dry, windy weather a fine layer of dust can build up on leaves, reducing the plants’ ability to photosynthesize efficiently. Some insects, including aphids and spider mites, can be kept in check by just being water once a week.

  • A healthy feeding and watering
  • Promote Growth
  • Protect your investment
  • Keep your flowers and plants beautiful
  • The formula is safe for all, and is guaranteed not to burn
  • It delivers fast green-up and foliar expansion

Core Aeration and Over Seeding

Aerating offers several benefits to your lawn. Core aeration provides an avenue for water, nutrients, and oxygen to get to the root zone. Aerating your lawn helps reduce thatch accumulation and alleviate compaction. Add over seeding to help thicken thin and bare areas and to introduce new and improved grass varieties to your existing turf.

What is lawn aeration?

Lawn aeration is the process of removing cores of soil from the lawn using an aerator. When aeration is completed, plugs are pulled from the ground leaving 2.5" – 4" holes in the lawn. The holes relieve soil compaction and allow nutrients and water to go deep into the soil. Aeration is performed during the fall months of the year, after the heat and humidity of summer have broken.

What are the benefits of aeration?

There are many benefits to aerating your lawn, including:

  • Reduces soil compaction
  • Increases activity of soil microorganisms that decompose thatch
  • Improves fertilizer uptake
  • Enhances water uptake and use by soil
  • Increases oxygen movement between the soil and atmosphere
  • Enhances infiltration of rainfall and irrigation
  • Helps prevent fertilizer and pesticide run-off from overly compacted areas

Over Seeding

Over seeding is one of the best steps you can take to improve the health and appearance of your lawn. Some of the benefits of over seeding include:

  • Improves grass types
  • Thicker and healthier grass
  • Improves weed tolerance
  • Improves drought tolerance
  • Increases insect resistance
  • Improves lawn color

Granular Limestone

Lime neutralizes the pH level of your soil and in return conditions and promotes growth in the soil. This is necessary for keeping a healthy green lawn and for planting new grass seed.  An optimal pH is 6.8-7.0.

Most soil in the Delaware County area is too acidic. Lime can be applied at any time of the year as long as the ground is not frozen. It adds essential calcium and will not burn your grass (100% natural).

**This is a granular lime. not the white powered lime**

Flea and Tick Control (April – Nov.)

Fleas and ticks can infest any lawn. They can bite people, live on a pet, and transmit diseases. Many people are allergic to flea and tick bites, and almost everyone experiences severe itching and painful irritation when bitten.

Fleas and ticks are also hard to control. That’s why our flea and tick treatment generally involves more than one application.

The first application reduces active fleas, ticks, and most other surface insects. Additional applications may be necessary for continued control as eggs and larvae hatch later on. Treatments are effective for 25-30 days. (June-July-Aug are key months for this service)

Lot Spraying

Weed Control by spraying herbicide or Round-up to eliminate weeds coming up through the asphalt or along the curb line.

Depending on your property this may include fence and perimeter maintenance to ensure brush and weeds are not encroaching in on lot space or damaging fences.

Perimeter Mosquito and Insect Control

What You Can Expect From Competitors

  • Water down products to save money. This results in multiple service calls. (Weeds)
  • Using cheap products at a low rate. (Problems with crabgrass, Grubs and disease)
  • Applying applications in poor weather. Causing liquid chemicals (if applied) to dilute and not be as effective.
  • Sales tactics. Promising you an organic base lawn care program. If they claim this, I would ask to see a LABEL. Make them prove it. They use the word organic to miss lead home owners into signing up for service.
  • Time on a property. It’s all about getting to the next lawn with big companies. Which leads to missing areas and mistakes. (missing weeds, leaving gates open)

Lawn Diseases & Care Tips

Sod vs Seed

Sod – Simply put, sod is the most expensive option because you are essentially paying someone else for time and materials of growing the grass. And, it is dramatically more expensive than seed.

Caring For Seed or Sod

Whether you’ve had your lawn overseeded, or have opted for a more extensive lawn renovation, proper care after planting is critical to giving your new grass the best chance for success.

Mowing Your Lawn

Do not cut your lawn when it is wet. It is best to cut your lawn in the late afternoon after the morning dew has dried out. Taller grass grows deeper roots, which can reach moisture further down in the soil.

Watering Your Lawn

Always water your lawn in the early morning between the hours of 5am and 9am. This gives your lawn sufficient time to dry out by evening, when wet lawns are susceptible to fungal diseases.

Summer Patch

Summer patch can infect Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescues during mid-summer when temperatures are in excess of 82 degrees. It is most common in areas that receive heavy foot traffic, poor circulation and insufficient drainage.

Dog Spot

Dog urine burn is commonly mistaken for a turf grass disease. When your pet urinates on your lawn, the grass can burn out and yellowish dead spots may appear due to the high levels of nitrogen in their urine.

Rust is a fungal disease that causes lawns to appear yellow or orange when viewed from a distance. Powdery orange spores are produced on slow growing turf, favored by factors such as summer heat, drought stress and low fertility.

Red Thread and Pink Patch

Red thread and pink patch are diseases that attack Kentucky bluegrass, fescues, ryegrass and bentgrass. These diseases are active during the cool, moist periods of the year, causing distinct-to-irregular discolored patches to develop in lawns.
